I have found that how you think does not matter if you do not act on your thoughts. But if you do act on your thoughts and do what you think is right people will tend to follow. A prime example is at work, I have a few co-workers who are very much wanting to change jobs. And at first all they did was complain about their day and the people they had to deal with and so on and so on. I just sat there and did not comment at all, mostly because I think that complaining is the biggest waste of time there is. What the hell does it do for you? If you are unhappy with something, do something about it. Don’t just wish it would magically change. It’s your life and you have control over what you do. True, in this situation you might not just be able to up and quit, but you can grin and bare it while you look for something that will make you happy. And I have noticed that people have stopped complaining to me. They talk to me about other things. But they received no reinforcement for the complaining and so they stopped doing it.
This applies in so many situations. I have constantly in my life just wanted to look at so many people and say “Why don’t you do something about it?” Usually if you are unhappy, it is because you are unhappy with yourself, what you are doing, or the people around you. You have control over all of these things. If you are unhappy, you need to find out why. Question yourself. And here is the important part: ACTUALLY ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS YOU POSE. This can be incredibly hard. But every time I have made someone come up with real answers that they actually believe, I have been thanked.
